When patients arrive in our South Calgary dental office and express dissatisfaction with their smiles, cosmetic dentistry provides solutions to improve the colour, shape and uniformity of teeth.
What Are Teeth Veneers?
While we offer many cosmetic dentistry services, including teeth whitening, bonding and clear braces, porcelain veneers offer a solution to many concerns at once.
- Uneven spacing
- Size and shape of teeth
- Worn or short teeth
- Chips and cracks
- Exposed roots
- Gummy smile
Veneers are thin restorations that fit over the existing tooth structure and are used on front teeth to improve the smile. Designed to look like a natural tooth, veneers can improve not only the appearance but also reduce sensitivity for damaged teeth.
We work closely with a local laboratory and technicians to design porcelain veneers from the finest materials available. The shading and colour of each veneer is meticulously matched for natural-looking results.
Porcelain veneers come in both traditional and minimal preparation varieties. We will discuss which option may benefit you based on the appearance and condition of your teeth.
Using the same tooth-coloured composite material available for fillings, we can sometimes create a veneer in our office. Composite veneers are more opaque than porcelain veneers and can cover significantly stained or dark teeth.
Smile Design and Planning
When planning cosmetic dentistry at Avenida Dental Centre, precise planning is required to achieve ideal fit and function in addition to enhancing the smile.
We will take impressions of teeth and create moulds to design the number, size, shape and length of veneers. Age, gender, smile shape and facial structure all play a role in creating natural-looking cosmetic dentistry. We also have extensive discussions with patients regarding their ideal smile and expectations.
The Veneer Procedure
Veneers are a lifelong commitment because they do require the alteration of the original tooth structure to make space for veneers and prevent a bulky appearance.
After polishing the surfaces of each tooth, we will take impressions to guide our dental lab in the creation of your custom dental veneers. Temporary veneers will protect the teeth while the lab creates your final restorations.
Once we receive them, your dentist will permanently bond individual veneers to each tooth. A final check of the bite will determine if any small adjustments are necessary.
Caring for Teeth Veneers
Porcelain is strong but not indestructible. We strongly recommend that you do not bite your nails or chew ice. Avoid putting any extreme pressure on teeth like eating taffy or other tough substances, which can loosen veneers.
